Citizen Tsuyosa Watch Guide

Japanese Automatic | Integrated Bracelet Design | Accessible Mechanical Watchmaking

By OD’s Jewellers | Updated April 2026 | 6 min read

This is a supporting guide to our Citizen Brand Guide.

The Citizen Tsuyosa is an automatic mechanical watch collection featuring an integrated bracelet design, positioned as an accessible entry point to Japanese mechanical watchmaking. Launched in 2022, the name derives from the Japanese word for “strength.”

Design Language

Tonneau Case

Barrel-shaped rather than angular — a softer, rounder profile that reads as dressy-casual rather than purely sporty.

4 O’Clock Crown

Recessed position prevents the crown pressing into the back of the hand during wrist flexion and maintains symmetrical silhouette.

Integrated Bracelet

Three-link “President-style” with brushed outer links and polished centre links. Small Second models include quick-release for tool-free strap changes.

Exhibition Caseback

All models feature a transparent caseback for viewing the mechanical movement in action.

Model Range

Model Size Power Reserve Feature
Tsuyosa Standard 40mm ~42 hours Sunray dial, original model
Tsuyosa Small Second 40mm 60 hours Sub-seconds at 6, guiloché dial, quick-release
Tsuyosa 60 40mm 60 hours Central seconds, geometric texture
Tsuyosa 37mm 37mm ~42 hours Compact sizing, vintage proportions

Sizing Note

The 40mm model’s integrated bracelet creates an effective wearing length of ~49–50mm. The 37mm variant dramatically reduces this, making it suitable for smaller wrists or vintage proportions.

Dial Options

The Tsuyosa emphasises colour variety: Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, Turquoise (“Ice Blue”), plus textured Art Deco patterns on Small Second and Tsuyosa 60 models. Limited editions include Pantone “Nowstalgia” collaboration colourways.

Care & Ownership

  • Automatic movement winds via wrist motion or manual crown winding
  • 42-hour models stop after ~2 days unworn; 60-hour models last through a weekend
  • If stopped, shake gently or wind crown to restart
  • Water resistance 50m — suitable for daily wear and swimming, not diving
  • All models carry manufacturer guarantee

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tsuyosa automatic or quartz?

The Tsuyosa is automatic (mechanical). It winds via wrist motion and has an exhibition caseback to view the movement. Unlike Eco-Drive models, it does not use solar charging.

Can I swim with a Tsuyosa?

The Tsuyosa is rated to 50m (5 bar), suitable for daily wear and surface swimming. It is not recommended for diving. For water-focused use, consider the Promaster Marine collection.

What is the power reserve?

Standard models hold ~42 hours; Small Second and Tsuyosa 60 models hold 60 hours. If unworn for longer than this, the watch will stop and need restarting.
