Citizen Watch Co. began life as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute in 1918 in Tokyo. The name “Citizen” was adopted in 1924, reflecting a founding principle: producing accurate, reliable timepieces accessible to everyday people rather than elites.

Eco-Drive Technology
Eco-Drive is Citizen’s defining innovation. A photovoltaic cell beneath the dial converts light — natural or artificial — into stored energy in a lithium-titanium ion rechargeable cell. This eliminates disposable batteries entirely, with the cell designed to last 20+ years.
Power Reserve
Fully charged, most models hold 6–12 months of power reserve. In darkness, the watch enters power save mode — hands stop but the internal clock continues. Re-exposure to light rapidly restores correct time.
Precision Timekeeping
Many Citizen models automatically synchronise with atomic clock signals or GPS satellites, correcting time and calendar data without manual adjustment. UK reception uses the DCF77 signal from Mainflingen, Germany.

Correct. Eco-Drive uses a photovoltaic cell to convert light into stored energy in a rechargeable cell designed to last 20+ years. There are no disposable batteries to replace.
What happens if my Eco-Drive watch stops?
It has entered power save mode due to insufficient light exposure. Place it in direct sunlight for 8–11 hours to restore full charge. The internal clock continues running during power save, so the hands will advance to the correct time upon recharging.
Is Super Titanium scratch-proof?
Super Titanium with Duratect hardening achieves a Vickers hardness of 1,000–1,200 Hv — approximately five times harder than standard stainless steel. It is highly scratch-resistant but not completely scratch-proof under extreme conditions.
Can I swim with my Citizen watch?
It depends on the model. Promaster Marine models are rated to 200m and are ISO 6425 certified for diving. Standard Eco-Drive models are typically rated to 50m or 100m — suitable for swimming but not diving. Always check the specific water resistance rating for your model.
What is the warranty period?
