Welsh gold & is it real (most-asked)

What is Welsh gold, and what makes Clogau special?

Welsh gold is gold mined in Wales — one of the rarest golds in the world, historically used for the wedding rings of the British Royal Family. Clogau's signature is that it blends a touch of this rare Welsh gold into its jewellery, so each piece carries a little piece of Wales. That heritage — not just the metal — is what people are buying.

Is Clogau real gold?

The Welsh gold in Clogau jewellery is genuine, rare Welsh gold. On most of the popular collections the main metal is sterling silver with a touch of Welsh gold as the signature accent; Clogau also makes solid 9ct gold pieces. So it's real silver with real (rare) gold — just check the individual piece for whether it's silver-with-Welsh-gold or solid gold.

Most-loved lines = sterling silver + a touch of Welsh gold. Want solid gold throughout? Choose the 9ct gold pieces.

Do all Clogau pieces contain Welsh gold?

Almost all the jewellery does — it's the brand's signature. A few accessories (such as some key rings) are made from non-precious metals and don't contain Welsh gold; the product description always states this. If Welsh gold matters to you, check the spec or ask us.

Is Clogau gold worth the money?

For what it is, yes — rare Welsh gold is genuinely scarce, the silver is solid sterling, the designs are meaningful, and there's real Welsh heritage and a royal association behind it. It's bought as a sentimental keepsake, so value it for the story and quality rather than resale.

Care, guarantee & ownership

How do I clean and care for Clogau jewellery?

Use a soft jewellery polishing cloth for a quick shine, or wash sterling silver in warm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid, working gently with a soft brush, then rinse and pat dry. Avoid silver-dip cleaners, ultrasonic baths and harsh chemicals, and take jewellery off before swimming, showering or applying perfume.

Does Clogau tarnish?

Sterling silver can naturally dull or tarnish over time, especially with moisture, perfume and air — it's normal and easily polished back with a silver cloth. Store it dry in its box or a pouch to keep it bright for longer.
