Is it Swiss? Good brand? (most-asked)
Is Tissot Swiss made or Japanese?
Tissot is 100% Swiss made — founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1853 and part of the Swatch Group (the world's largest watch company). Every Tissot carries Swiss movements and the ‘Swiss Made’ mark. It is not a Japanese brand.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Is Tissot a good watch brand?
Yes — widely regarded as the best-value gateway into real Swiss watchmaking. Sapphire crystals, genuine Swiss movements, 100m water resistance on many models, and lines (PRX, Gentleman, Seastar) that punch well above their £200–£550 price.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Is Tissot a luxury brand?
It's affordable-luxury / premium Swiss — positioned below high-luxury houses (Omega, Longines) but firmly above fashion watches. Excellent quality and Swiss credentials at an accessible price.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Where are Tissot watches made?
In Switzerland — the brand's home is Le Locle in the Swiss Jura, the heart of Swiss watchmaking.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Movement: automatic vs quartz
Are Tissot watches automatic or quartz?
Both, depending on the model. The Powermatic 80 (Gentleman, PRX, Le Locle) is a Swiss automatic with an 80-hour power reserve — it winds from your wrist's motion. The PR100 and many PRX are quartz, and the PRC100 Solar is light-powered. None need hand-winding day to day.
What is the Powermatic 80?
Tissot's Swiss automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve — take it off Friday and it's still running Monday. With sapphire crystal and an exhibition caseback on the Gentleman, it's the standout value in the range.
Shop Tissot at OD's →PRX quartz vs PRX Powermatic 80 — which?
Same iconic integrated-bracelet design, two engines. PRX quartz is slimmer, lighter, cheaper and battery-accurate. PRX Powermatic 80 is a self-winding mechanical with the 80-hour reserve and exhibition caseback — the watch-lover's pick. Quartz for grab-and-go, Powermatic for mechanical soul.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Do Tissot watches need a battery?
Only the quartz models (e.g. PR100) use a battery, changed every few years. Automatic models have no battery (powered by motion); solar models recharge from light.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Worth it & which model
Is a Tissot automatic worth it?
Yes if you want a genuine mechanical Swiss watch — the Powermatic 80 gives you a self-winding movement, 80-hour reserve and exhibition caseback for a few hundred pounds, which is remarkable value in the mechanical world.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Tissot PRX vs Seastar vs Gentleman — which should I choose?
PRX: 70s-inspired integrated steel bracelet, the style icon (quartz or Powermatic 80). Gentleman: refined dress all-rounder, best in Powermatic 80. Seastar: the 300m dive watch for a sportier, tougher look. PRX for design, Gentleman for versatility, Seastar for sport.
Shop Tissot at OD's →What's the best Tissot for everyday wear / a dress watch / sport?
Everyday: PR100 or PRX — robust, smart, goes with anything. Dress: Le Locle or Gentleman — classic and refined. Sport / diving: Seastar — 300m water resistance and a rugged bezel.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Best Tissot for a woman?
The PRX 25mm/35mm (modern integrated bracelet, mother-of-pearl dial options) and the Lovely and Bellissima lines for a dressier classic look.

Tissot vs Citizen — which is better?
Both excellent, just different. Tissot is Swiss made with sapphire crystal and the option of a mechanical (automatic) movement (Powermatic 80) — the choice for Swiss heritage and a ‘real’ mechanical watch. Citizen is Japanese with Eco-Drive, so it's light-powered and you never change a battery — the choice for convenience and value. We stock both.
Tissot vs Seiko?
Tissot is Swiss made; Seiko is Japanese. Both are great value, but Tissot leads on Swiss-Made cachet, sapphire crystals across the range, and the 80-hour Powermatic 80 at this price. If Swiss heritage matters, Tissot is the pick.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Tissot vs Hugo BOSS watches?
Different categories. Tissot is a Swiss watch specialist — in-house Swiss movements, sapphire crystal, horological heritage. BOSS is a fashion-house watch (Japanese quartz, designed to match the BOSS look). For watchmaking, Tissot; for a designer-brand statement, BOSS.
Sizing, water resistance & care
What size Tissot case should I choose?
Most men's Tissots run 38–42mm (the Gentleman is a versatile 38mm; PRX 40mm); women's run 25–36mm. Smaller wrists suit 38–40mm, larger wrists 42mm+. Try the bracelet fit too — we can size it in store.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Can a Tissot bracelet be resized?
Yes — the steel bracelets are adjusted by removing or adding links. OD's will size it to your wrist when you buy in store, or you can have any jeweller adjust it.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Are Tissot watches waterproof?
Water-resistant: most are 100m (fine for swimming) and the Seastar is 300m (true diving). Rinse after seawater and never operate the crown underwater.
Shop Tissot at OD's →How do I look after my Tissot?
Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft cloth, keep the crown pushed in, avoid knocks and magnets, and have an automatic serviced every few years. Sapphire crystal resists scratches well. Store it dry.
Shop Tissot at OD's →Are Tissot watches good quality?
Yes — 316L stainless steel cases, sapphire crystals, Swiss movements and up to 100m (Seastar 300m) water resistance, with a full manufacturer warranty from an authorised stockist like OD's.
