Is it real? Silver / gold / diamond / crystal (most-asked)

Is Swarovski real silver?

No. Swarovski jewellery is made from plated metal alloy — most pieces are rhodium-plated (the same bright white metal used to finish white gold), and some are gold-plated. It is not solid sterling silver. The rhodium plating is what keeps it bright and tarnish-resistant; you can see ‘rhodium-plated’ stated on our product names.

Want solid silver? Swarovski isn't it — it's plated crystal jewellery. You're paying for the crystal and the design, not the metal.

Does Swarovski use real gold?

No — the gold-coloured pieces are gold-plated over alloy, not solid 9ct/18ct gold. This is normal for crystal fashion jewellery and is why a gold-tone Swarovski piece costs £150–£200 rather than several hundred or thousands.

Are Swarovski stones real diamonds?

No. They are Swarovski crystals — precision-cut, lab-made crystal glass engineered for maximum brilliance. They are designed to give the sparkle and fire of diamonds at a tiny fraction of the cost, but they are not diamonds and aren't graded or valued as such.

If you want the diamond look without the diamond price, this is exactly what Swarovski is for.

Will Swarovski crystals pass a diamond tester?

Generally no in a reliable way. Swarovski crystal is cut glass, not carbon, so a proper diamond tester (which reads thermal/electrical conductivity) will identify it as not-diamond. They look stunning to the eye, but they won't pass as real diamonds under testing.

What metal is Swarovski jewellery made of?

A jeweller's metal alloy finished with rhodium or gold plating, set with Swarovski crystals. The rhodium-plated pieces look silver-white; the gold-plated pieces look gold. Each product description and name states the finish.

Worth it, quality & luxury

Is Swarovski a good brand / good quality?

Yes — it's one of the most respected names in crystal, known for consistent cut, brilliance and finish. Quality is high for crystal fashion jewellery: beautifully made, well-boxed, reliable plating. Just set expectations correctly — it's premium crystal, not fine jewellery with precious metals and gemstones.

Is Swarovski a luxury brand?

It's a premium / affordable-luxury brand — a heritage Austrian crystal house with strong brand cachet, but priced in the accessible range (most jewellery £79–£199). It sits above high-street fashion jewellery and below fine jewellery.

Is Swarovski worth the money?

For the sparkle-to-price ratio and the brand, yes. You get a genuine, boxed, instantly-recognisable piece with brilliant crystals for under £200. It holds style and gift value rather than resale value.

Does Swarovski have resale value?

Very little — like most crystal fashion jewellery, it's bought to wear and enjoy, not as an investment. Buy it because you love the piece, not to resell it.

Comparisons & gifting

Swarovski crystal vs cubic zirconia — what's the difference?

Both are diamond-look stones, but Swarovski crystal is precision-cut crystal glass engineered for that signature fire and brilliance, while cubic zirconia is a harder, more diamond-like simulant often set in sterling silver. Swarovski is about maximum sparkle and the brand finish in ready-to-wear statement pieces.

Want the famous Swarovski sparkle and brand? Choose Swarovski crystal — the Matrix and Una Angelic lines are our most-gifted.

What brands are similar to Swarovski for sparkle?

For crystal sparkle and statement pieces, Swarovski's own Matrix, Constella and Una lines cover most looks. If you want genuine sterling silver with cubic-zirconia sparkle instead of plated crystal, that's a different style of piece — ask our team and we'll point you to the right one.

Is Swarovski a good gift?

Excellent — it's the classic ‘safe but special’ gift: instantly recognisable, beautifully boxed, brilliant sparkle, and almost always under £200. The Matrix hoops and Una Angelic bracelet are our most popular gifting pieces.

Care & ownership

Will Swarovski tarnish or fade?

The rhodium plating resists tarnish well, but plated jewellery isn't indestructible: keep it away from perfume, water, creams and sweat, wipe gently after wear, and store it dry in its box. Treated kindly it stays bright for years; worn in the shower daily it will dull faster.

How do I clean Swarovski crystals?

Wipe with a soft, dry or barely-damp lint-free cloth. Avoid jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals — they can damage the plating and the crystal coatings. Gentle is the rule.
