BOSS Watch Range Overview

BOSS watches sit in the accessible-luxury bracket — a step up from fashion brands like Cluse or Daniel Wellington, but priced well below entry-level Swiss makers like Tissot or Tag Heuer. Hugo Boss licenses its watch division to Movado Group, which means BOSS watches are designed in Switzerland and Germany but assembled to a price point that keeps them in the £150 – £450 retail range.

Most BOSS watches use Japanese Miyota quartz movements, with a smaller automatic line using Miyota mechanical calibres. Cases are typically 41 – 44mm for men and 30 – 36mm for women, in stainless steel, two-tone, gold-plated or rose gold-plated finishes. The range splits into three intent categories: dress (Cheswick, Hero), sport (Sealiner, Candor Prime), and chronograph (Energy, Sport Champion, Volane).

Movement Types: Quartz vs Automatic

Quartz is the default for the BOSS range. Quartz watches use a battery-powered crystal oscillator and are accurate to within ±15 seconds per month, require no winding, and only need a battery change every two to three years. Quartz is what makes BOSS watches affordable and low-maintenance.

Automatic BOSS watches use a Miyota mechanical movement (calibre 8N24 skeleton, or 82S0 open-heart). The rotor winds via wrist motion, giving roughly 40 hours of power reserve when fully wound. Automatics show movement detail through a skeleton or open-heart dial — they're for buyers who want to see the engineering, not just check the time. For the technical detail on how these movements perform, read the BOSS Automatic Watches Guide.

BOSS Watch Families

Hero — Modern Dress

The Hero range is BOSS's contemporary dress watch — clean dial, slim case (around 43mm), bracelet or strap, designed for office and evening wear. Hero 2.0 introduced a refined dial layout with applied logo and slim baton indices.

Cheswick — Heritage Bracelet

Cheswick is the most popular BOSS men's range at OD's. Five-link bracelet, 42mm case, available in stainless steel, two-tone (steel + gold-plated centre links), and gold-plated. Cheswick reads as more formal than the sport ranges and pairs well with business attire.

Candor Prime — Sport Bracelet

Candor Prime is the modern sports family — wider case (44mm), integrated bracelet, sportier dial layout with bolder hands and applied indices. The green and black dial variants are the strong sellers in this family.

Sealiner — Diver-Style

Sealiner is BOSS's diver-style watch. Rotating bezel, applied luminous markers, screw-down crown, 100m water resistance. It's BOSS's most water-capable range and the closest to a tool watch in the line-up.

Chronograph Range — Energy, Volane, Sport Champion

BOSS chronographs use a Miyota chronograph quartz movement with three sub-dials (60-second, 30-minute, 24-hour) and a tachymeter scale on the bezel or rehaut. For the architecture of how these complications work, read the BOSS Chronograph Guide.

Water Resistance

BOSS watches are rated either 5 ATM (50 metres) or 10 ATM (100 metres). 5 ATM is splash-resistant and safe for handwashing — not for swimming. 10 ATM is suitable for swimming but not high-pressure activity like diving. The Sport range and most Sealiner models are 10 ATM. Dress models like Hero and Cheswick are typically 5 ATM. For the full breakdown of how case sealing actually achieves these ratings, read the BOSS Sport Water Resistance Guide.

Sizing and Fit

Men's BOSS watches range from 41mm (Hero) to 44mm (Candor Prime, Sealiner). On a 7" wrist, 42mm is the most balanced choice. On a 7.5" wrist, 44mm sits well. Bracelet sizing is adjustable in-store at OD's at no charge. For full sizing methodology, see the Watch Size Guide.

Servicing and Care

Quartz BOSS watches need a battery change every 24 – 36 months. We carry batteries in stock and complete most battery changes in-store while you wait. Automatic models benefit from a service every 4 – 5 years to clean the movement and replace seals. Avoid magnets, cleaning solvents, and hot showers (case seals soften with heat). Day-to-day care: wipe with a soft cloth, check bracelet links periodically, and store in a dry place when not worn.

Who Should Buy a BOSS Watch

BOSS watches make sense for buyers who want recognised branding, a Swiss-influenced design language, and a quartz reliability ceiling — without the £600+ commitment of an entry-level Tissot or Hamilton. They suit gift purchases, first "real watch" buys, and customers who don't want to wind or service mechanically. Buyers wanting Swiss-made movements, in-house calibres, or long-term resale value should look at Tissot or Citizen instead.
