Citizen Promaster Watch Guide
This is a supporting guide to our Citizen Brand Guide.
The Citizen Promaster is a professional-grade tool watch collection designed for extreme environments, organised into three pillars: Marine (sea), Land, and Sky. Launched in 1989, it integrates specialised instrumentation — depth gauges, altimeters, flight computers — into robust, Eco-Drive powered timepieces.
The Three Pillars
Promaster Marine (Sea)
ISO 6425-certified dive watches with electronic depth gauges, rapid ascent alarms, and 200–300m water resistance. Includes the iconic Aqualand and Fugu families.
Promaster Land
Field watches and altimeter instruments. Altichron measures -300m to 10,000m altitude. Promaster Tough features monocoque titanium construction.
Promaster Sky
Pilot’s watches with slide rule bezels derived from E6B flight computers. Skyhawk A-T with atomic timekeeping and dual LCD screens.
Sensor Technology
Piezoelectric depth sensors, barometric altimeters, and magnetometer compasses. Real-time environmental monitoring integrated into analog displays.
Materials & Construction
Super Titanium™
Duratect surface hardening achieving 1,000–1,200 Hv. 40% lighter than steel with superior scratch resistance.
Monocoque Cases
One-piece titanium case with no rear case back seam — eliminating a potential failure point for water and dust.
Case Sizing
| Model | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Promaster Diver | 42–44mm | Standard dive proportions |
| Aqualand | 46–48mm | Sensor housing requires larger case |
| Nighthawk (Sky) | 42mm | Mid-size pilot’s watch |
| Skyhawk A-T (Sky) | 46mm | Dual LCD screens |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ISO 6425 certification?
ISO 6425 is the international standard for dive watches. It requires specific water resistance, shock resistance, and legibility testing. Promaster Marine models carrying this certification are verified tool watches, not fashion accessories rated to a depth for marketing.
Do I need to service my Eco-Drive Promaster?
The Eco-Drive cell is designed to last 20+ years. Water resistance gaskets degrade over time — pressure test dive models every 3–5 years to maintain rated depth performance.
What is the slide rule bezel on Sky models?
A mechanical calculator derived from the E6B flight computer, enabling fuel consumption calculations, airspeed corrections, and unit conversions. While digital avionics have superseded slide rules operationally, proficiency remains a mandatory pilot certification skill.
