1 | Eid gifts vs Ramadan gifts — the two Eids explained

Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer and charity — not a shopping season, and not really a gift-giving occasion in itself. Any gifting during Ramadan tends to be small and practical: dates and food for iftar, occasionally a modest gift shared after the fast is broken. If you're searching "ramadan gifts" hoping to mark the month itself, that's the honest scale of it — this isn't the moment for the big present.

The real gift-giving moment is Eid, and there are two of them. Eid al-Fitr ("the festival of breaking the fast") falls at the end of Ramadan and is the one most associated with new clothes, sweets, Eidi — cash given to children — and jewellery. Eid al-Adha ("the festival of sacrifice") falls around ten weeks later, coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage, and centres on Qurbani: meat from a sacrificed animal, traditionally divided three ways between family, relatives and those in need. Both Eids follow the lunar Hijri calendar, so the Gregorian date moves roughly eleven days earlier every year, and the exact day is only confirmed by moon sighting shortly beforehand — it can even fall a day apart between the UK and countries like Saudi Arabia. Treat everything below as expected, not fixed, and check closer to the time; we update this page annually.

Because the calendar drifts, these same two Eids will fall roughly eleven days earlier again in 2028 — worth knowing if you're planning ahead rather than shopping the week before.

3 | Eidi — and where jewellery fits alongside it

Eidi (also spelled Eidiyah) is money given, mainly to children, at Eid — usually Eid al-Fitr — typically handed over by parents and grandparents after the Eid morning prayer as the family gathers. In many UK households that's roughly £20–£100 per child from parents and £10–£50 from grandparents or other relatives, though it varies with relationship and means. Beyond the treat of it, Eidi is often how children are introduced to the idea of giving and saving.

We want to be clear: jewellery isn't a replacement for Eidi, and we'd never suggest swapping one for the other. Where jewellery does fit is alongside it — a small keepsake piece for a daughter, niece or granddaughter marking a particular Eid, given in addition to the cash rather than instead of it. We don't currently carry a dedicated children's jewellery range, so for younger children, Eidi cash remains the natural gift; for older teenagers, a modest gold-tone or silver piece from our general range works well as an extra.

Gifting gold at Eid has deep roots across the Muslim world, historically father to daughter or husband to wife, and increasingly now daughter to mother, sister to sister, or between friends as the tradition has broadened. Gold is valued as both adornment and a store of value — never seen as purely decorative, but as something that carries weight as family wealth and continuity, particularly bangles, passed down as much as worn. Bangles, earrings, necklace sets and rings are the most commonly gifted forms, often bought as matching sets.

Here's where we're honest rather than aspirational: 22-carat gold is the standard in a lot of South Asian and Gulf gifting traditions, and that's simply not what UK jewellers typically stock — us included. We don't have a big solid-gold range and won't dress it up as one. What we do have is a small, real range of Clogau Welsh gold, and a wide choice of gold-tone and plated pieces for anyone who wants the look at a price that doesn't need a second thought. Silver is our deepest range by far, and a genuinely elegant option if gold isn't the point.

5 | Eid gifts for her

Women remain the most common recipients of Eid jewellery, and the choice doesn't need to be complicated. Jewellery for men at Eid tends to be quieter — a steel or leather bracelet, a watch, occasionally cufflinks for the relative who still wears a shirt to prayers. It's less central to the tradition than gifting for women, but a well-chosen bracelet still lands better than another gadget nobody asked for. For the wider family — sisters, cousins, in-laws — small matching pieces bought in twos or threes are a nice way to mark the day without singling anyone out, and sit comfortably alongside whatever Eidi is being handed round the room.

7 | Getting it right — and what to avoid

A few honest ground rules, learned from paying attention rather than assuming:

• Don't confuse the two Eids. Eid al-Fitr is sweets, new clothes and Eidi; Eid al-Adha is Qurbani and charity. Different occasion, different gift character.
• Don't treat Ramadan as the shopping moment. It's a month of restraint and reflection — the gifting happens at Eid, once the fast has ended.
• Don't lean on a crescent moon and star as a stand-in for understanding. We could print one on every box and call it done. We're not going to — what matters is getting the piece and the moment right, not the icon.
• Don't assume one custom fits everyone. "Many families" is about as far as any outsider should generalise — Eid looks different across South Asian, Arab, African and Southeast Asian households, and that's worth respecting rather than flattening.
• Don't offer jewellery as a substitute for Eidi. They sit alongside each other, not in competition.

"Eid Mubarak" — blessed Eid — is the greeting that works in every context. We'd rather send that with a well-chosen gift than get it wrong with an over-explained one.

Yes — unworn online purchases can be returned or exchanged within 14 days, and we issue the refund or exchange within 24 hours of receiving it.
